Clearing the Air
If you are a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints or Jehovah’s Witnesses you will most likely be upset about the following information and opinions. Please understand that we do not doubt or question your devotion. We acknowledge that you believe you are following God. Neither do we question your integrity. Just like most Christians, most followers of these religions are good people.
However, the information that the Bible gives us along with the following supporting evidence, forces us to take a stand for the truth that is the Bible. Several doctrines of these churches undermine and contradict the Bible. In fact, the Bible warned of false teachings that would lead people astray from the truth of Jesus Christ.
But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves. – 2 Peter 2:1 (NLT)
In reading this page, I urge you to keep an open mind and to explore for yourself the information provided.
It is the nearly universal opinion of every Christian church that Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church) are both cults. A cult is defined by Dictionary.com as:
a religion or sect considered to be false, unorthodox, or extremist…
This decision is not debatable. There are many teachings of both denominations that are heresies, conflicting with and contradicting Scripture. We hold no ill-feelings towards those of other beliefs, but as a declaration of faith we must draw the line and speak the truth. Please see the following articles that are far more knowledgeable and eloquent in regards to this subject.
- Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry (CARM): A Comparison Between Christian Doctrine and Mormon Doctrine by Matt Slick
- Columbia Evangelical Seminary: Coffee Talk with Professor Rick Walston: A Few Major Differences between Jehovah’s Witnesses and Christianity
I feel I should end this section with some wise words from Professor Walston (who wrote the above linked article):
All Christians must remember, however, that while they need to know these significant differences so as to be forewarned, and to warn others, our goal is also to reach members of the cults with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Evangelism, not conquest, should be our aim.
